It is a melancholy truth, that a suppression of the press could not more compleatly [sic] deprive the nation of it's [sic] benefits, than is done by it's [sic] abandoned prostitution to falsehood.
Perhaps an editor might begin a reformation in some such way as this. Divide his paper into 4 chapters, heading the 1st, Truths. 2d, Probabilities. 3d, Possibilities. 4th, Lies.

Part of being a citizen in a (kind of) functioning democracy is understanding the nuances of the stuff that is screwed up around you to the best of your ability so that when the time comes to vote or have a meaningful discussion with others around you, you can be a voice of reason.
[…] I may not know everything, but I'm trying and putting an honest effort into learning as much as I can every single day. Reading NYT, WaPo, etc. is my version of putting an American flag out front, or a Support the Troops sticker on my car, or singing the National Anthem or whatever people do to feel like they're doing their part.
It's probably not 100% a sure thing that it's going to happen, but it probably will, and it's now on my radar to keep an eye on since that might actually wind up being a big deal. That's what I want out of the news.

Unity also spends a considerable amount of time discussing how any changes to how China treats intellectual property, game software, and corporate ownership might impact its business.

The problem with the subscription model is that it disproportionally benefits those who could survive without it, while disproportionally burdens those who could’ve benefitted from it.
As have been widely pointed out, the subscription model is a commitment to a software’s long-term evolution and a flexible payment plan for once-in-a-while needs. Ironically, most of the air on the field of subscription is siphoned by incumbent, clumsy “professional” softwares that are carelessly maintained — Office, Adobe Suite, etc. Their adoption of the subscription pricing is but a way to tax people who are obliged to use them because they are “standards.”
Unfortunately, the more subscription money goes to the big techs’ pockets, the less money people are lefted with to pay indie developers who genuinely care about their software and need the stable income to make real their roadmaps. And when humbly switch to the subscription model for survival, they become the principal – if not sole — outlet for people’s malice toward the big techs’ abuse of the model.

The reasoning that the trailing parts of an URL don't worth being revealed to the user because they don't provide for much information is BS. The information is the resolution of uncertainty (see Shannon's information theory). The path and parameters within the URL reduces user's uncertainty about the request sent to the server by the browser, making them information equally meaningful as the hostname. Google'a promotion of the regression is understandable as it's been among top offenders of the semantics of the URL.
Google resumes its attack on the URL bar, hides full addresses on Chrome 86

PDFs are typically large masses of text and images. The format is intended and optimized for print. It’s inherently inaccessible, unpleasant to read, and cumbersome to navigate online. Do not use PDFs to present digital content that could and should otherwise be a web page.
